of ground but they still retain control of the house where speaker john boehner is expected to be reelected as speaker of the house today. as we mentioned, there are some firsts here. the 113th congress is a bit more diverse. more openly gay members and the first black republican elected to the senate in decades. there are also fewer veterans in the 113th congress. they will have to jump right into a bitterly divided political arena with little time to get adjusts before some difficult issues come up for a vote. there was a lot of outrage tuesday night when, after the fiscal cliff vote, the house adjourned without taking up a $60 billion aid package for victims of hurricane sandy. speaker john balkaner agreed to make sandy aid one of the first orders of business for the new congress. congress. -- speaker john boehner agreed to make sandy aid one of the first orders of business for the new congress. >> the bottom line is between

tim kaine will be sworn in as the newson are to from the commonwealth taking the seat vacated by jim webb. jim webb. in our other top stories, hillary clinton is recovering at home. the secretary of state razz released from a new york hospital last night following treatment for a blood clot in her head. her doctors say she is making progress and expect as a full recovery. clinton's spokesman says she is appreciative of the care she got and is eager to get back to work but there is no date yet for her return to the state department. in connecticut, classes resume for students and teachers of sandy hook elementary school. this comes less than three weeks after the deadly shootings at the school. classes will now be held in a former middle school just down the road from the shooting scene in a town of monroe. last night, parents were invite tie open house of the new school. many parents thanked the teachers for being heroes that day. the new school will be renamed sandy hook elementary. new this morning, a d.c.

another truck driver delivering packages robbed at gunpoint in southeast. the latest happened wednesday morning in the 4300 block of southern avenue. two masked men forceed a ups driver into his truck at gunpoint and drove to alabama avenue at reed terrace and started unloading packages. a similar robbery happened just blocks away to a fedex driver back on december 22nd. neither driver was hurt and police are trying to determine if the crimes are related. metro transit police are asking for your help tracking down four gunmen in connection way vile antitax on a metrobus. these men are suspected of taxing two women on the number 93 bus in southeast on new euro's day. investigators say the men got on the bus in adams morgan. the women got on in anacostia and one of the men touched one of the women inappropriately. there was a fight.

27 in manassas. 23 in gaithersburg. these are cold temperatures. 21 at frederick. a few minutes ago, i showed some of of the temperatures regionally. little very cold. columbus, ohio in the single digits right now. boston is in the single digits. we have a big chunk of very cold air across portions of the midwest, mid-atlantic up into new england. we are looking at some cloud cover to start your day. some light showers to the south and to the east of us. these will remain south so we're not worried about any rain today. you can see some cloud cover and once we get into the day here as the clouds push to the east, we should see more and more sunshine just like yesterday. so generally, a sunny and bright day. it will be on the cool side as mentioned with highs only about 40 degrees or so. so a little below average. there is the reason why it is cold. high pressure. that is canadian high pressure and arctic air spilling into regions off to the north. that will be pushing off to the north over the next 24 hours. the good news, nice and dry although we will remain chilly for the next day or two. 40 today, sunny skies. winds out of the west at five to 10. you know it is january when you

say a cool afternoon ped athe temperature is 40 degrees. clear skies tonight, cold. here is your accu-weather seven- day forecast. the dry streak continues. we've had a nice little streak of dry weather here this week. going to the redskin game, look like mid-40s. probably low 40s to kick off late in the afternoon. and just some clouds around but we should be dry to sunday. than a warm-up next week. that is weather. let's do some traffic and julie wright. good morning. >> on the roads this morning, the big story occurred last night. a 20-inch water main break is what we're talking about. that continues to tie up your commute along wisconsin avenue in each direction between bradley boulevard and willard avenue. so again this morning, you will find traffic able to squeeze by to the right both north and southbound. but the repairs are ongoing. this is what you are waking up to. if you typically travel 355 wisconsin avenue from the capital beltway, start thinking of your alternate routes. connecticut avenue, even the beltway head over to river road in your destination is d.c. this will impact the drive.

we are anticipating slower than usual traffic volumes and delays coming southbound on the beltway and coming often the beltway to go southbound along 355. we are checking out the camera right now here at bradley and so far traffic volume working in our favor. there is no delay. we'll find that lanes are open southbound on 270, volume increasing south of 109 headed out towards clarksburg. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. traffic. >> thank you. new this morning, a d.c. police officer is challenging the accuracy of his own department's speed cameras. sergeant mark robin senate son says a citation issued by the speed camera in the third street tunnel is invalid. it should have been set to enforce a 40-mile per hour construction zone speed limit because was set set for the regular 45-mile per hour limit. the officer says it violates a city regulation requiring the district to enforce the posted limit. city officials say the ticket

was valueed a because in a temporary work zone, cameras are set to enforce the regular speed since it cannot determine when workers are present. a new study by the state highway administration in prince george's county shows traffic is slower on seven state roads. aaa mid-atlantic agrees with the study saying it has seen drops in speeding by up to 80% in montgomery and prince george's counties. a new study finds truth behind so-called senior moments. researchers say once you hit 50, remembering the names of common objects gets more difficult. they compared people in their 20s and 30s to people in their 50s and found the older group was not able to name objects as quickly as the younger group. it has already set in for us. these hours kind of speed up that process. >> i think so. yeah. it moves you right along. coming up next, al gore's pet project has been purchased by

this was in the 1800 block of biltmore street northwest. d.c. and montgomery county investigators say they are trying to determine whether the victim is michael po. the 23-year-old has been missing since the early-morning hours of new year's day. he split from his group of friend and never returned to his home in clarksburg, maryland. maryland. . on capitol hill, the 113th congress is scheduled to be sworn n the new congress will bring with it some historic changes too. the senate will remain in democratic control but there will now be a record number of women, 20 including an all- female delegation from new hampshire. there will also be more racial diversity and the fewest number of veterans in congress since world war ii. >> and with this new congress, they will face some big battle ahead. they will need to deal with debates over massive spending cuts. >> one of the first items on their list is tackling aid relief for superstorm sandy victims. it is a bill that many thought would have been dealt with

already and its delay has created an uproar. shannon breen has the story. >> it is the most disgraceful action i've seen in this house in the 20 years i've been here. >> this is a disaster on top of a disaster. >> reporter: house republicans who oppose quick passage of the sandy aid bill are getting blasted from both sides of the aisle. but lawmakers like california's darryl issa say they were never going to vote for a bill they say is full of all kinds of pet projects that have nothing to do with those devastated by the superstorm. >> the fact is the senate didn't do their job. they sent us a bunch of pork and left town. that was just wrong. >> reporter: critics of the $60 billion senate bill which would be broken no two separate house votes, a $27 billion prime bail and a $33 billion amendment says it was loaded with pork. they point to $600 million for the epa to support climate change issues, $348 million for the national park service and

$188 million for amtrak among other things. >> i doubt that darryl issa would say when california, god forbid has an earthquake or a fire, that relief to them is pork. in fact, he has not. so i'm infuriated, infuriated by comments like that. >> chris christie says boehner refused to take his phone calls as it was becoming apparent that the sandy aid package wouldn't go to a vote in the house. >> when you sit around around delay and give assurances that things will get done and they're not, that is not doing your job. have some guts. investigator boehner spoke with christie and then a and eric cantor met with congressional delegations from new york and new jersey aassured them that a sandy package in a new form is

clinton has been seen in public since december 10th. she was hospitalized with a blood clot that resulted from a concussion. south a disturbing new terror video out. al-qaeda and yemen is offering a $25,000 bounty for the killing of american soldiers and it is offering six pounds of gold if any terrorist kills the u.s. ambassador to yemen. the u.s. intelligence has determined that the threats on the eight-minute video is credible. cred . the "new york times" wants to know why the government is secretly killing suspected terrorists with drone attacks. but a federal judge in new york is ruling that the united states does not have to give up any secrets about the classified program. the american civil liberties union joined the "new york times" in filing requests for more details on the freedom of information act. listen up. fast food addicts, including you, the price of some cheap seats at a popular fast food chain is going up.

they are described as suitable for christening parties or first birthday celebrations. there are reports that brad pitt and angelina jolie have tied the knot during a secret wedding. the london telegraph is reporting that the couple may have gotten married during a christmas day ceremony in the caribbean. so far, no official confirmation from the actors. pitt and jolie announced their engagement last april after seven years together. a junior bacon cheeseburger, a four piece nuggets, you could soon be paying more at wendy's. they are replacing their 99- cent value menu way new right price right sized options. the prices will range from $99 cents for $1.99. the company credits the move to the higher costs they have to pay for different against. but don't worry.
